Loyiso’s Travel Tip

Canopy Tour Tsitsikamma National Park

Enjoy the adventure of a canopy tour! A great adventure, suitable for everybody from all fitness levels, is to do a canopy tour; zip-lining through the tops of the trees. In South Africa there are several stunning places where this can be done and I will share two of the best here with you.

The first one to mention is the Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour. This tour can be done nearby the village Tzaneen situated in the Limpopo Province.

The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour, also named as one of the South African Hidden Treasures, takes the whole concept one step further as thirteen platforms have all been individually designed and built overlooking the spectacular Groot Letaba River. Journey through the ecology and geology of one of the most spectacular waterfall gorges in the province. The Letaba River gorge is home to a wide variety of plant, animal and birdlife – watch out for the Giant Kingfisher.

Magoebaskloof Canopy Tours will take you into a previously inaccessible realm of nature, moving you between platforms built high within the upper level of indigenous forests and ancient mountain cliffs. Each platform is joined by our spectacular ‘foefie‘ cable slide high above the sparkling river, waterfalls and forest floor.  Relax and absorb the tranquillity of your natural surroundings on each platform. Magoebaskloof Canopy Tours’ trained guides ensure the safety of each group while describing facts about the fauna, flora and ecology of the surrounding environment.

An other great location to experience a canopy adventure is in Stormsriver by the Tsitsikamma National Park in the Eastern Cape Province. The Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour is a unique eco-wilderness adventure that takes place in the magnificent Tsitsikamma indigenous rainforest. The product is also proudly Fairtrade in Tourism South Africa accredited. The first of its kind in Africa, the canopy tour involves traversing from one platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to 30 meters above the forest floor…

Most platforms are located in giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. The scenery and bird life is spectacular and professional guides provide interesting facts about the forest ecology during the 2½ to 3 hours. The Tsistikamma Canopy Tour consists of 10 platforms and 10 ‘fufi’ slides, the longest of which is 100m! About three hours later you exit the forest, having undertaken the journey of a lifetime. You have contributed to the creation of new jobs and are helping the forest regeneration project.

The above mentioned experiences can be booked with several of our tours. Some example itineraries that you can add the canopy tour on to are: the 15 days Cape & Garden Route tour and the 13 days Limpopo & Kruger package. Of course would I also be happy to assist you to tailor make the tour the way you had pictured it!.
